Blog 10

I thought that Granello (2001) article on the Bloom’s taxonomy was very interesting and intriguing.  This article told us how to write a good literature review.  It had many areas where a student’s paper could fall into which decides if the paper is good or not.  I do see the over arching theme that doing certain things will make your paper better, but there were some things in this taxonomy that I just could not agree on.  For the majority, I did like the areas except for the last one, Evaluation (Granello, 2001).  This section described that we must put our own personal option into the literature review.  Over my undergraduate career, I was always told to stick to the facts and making everything flow with the ideas that I had and what I found.  We were suppose to show what studies found and how they found it and then we were to take this information and relate it to what we are going to study.  We were never to give our opinion in a research paper unless we were directed to.  To me, we could not do that because we did not have degrees so we possible could not make assumptions.  I also felt that the literature review was not for opinion.  Our opinion was to go into the discussion and how it tied along with the article.  I guess we could not use our opinion because we had no degree and it would not be valid in a research paper.  I also felt that we were not allowed to give our opinion because we were not “scholarly” yet.  However, now I have my degree and I have put my work in so I believe that I now can use my opinion.
In the article, Granello (2001) talked about how graduates do not always write good papers based off of Bloom’s taxonomy and I feel that this is so because as undergrads they cannot give their opinion and how they think articles are valid to use because they do not have their degrees.  When undergraduate do not have their degrees, they can only use the information that is already out there to write a good paper.  Overall, Bloom’s taxonomy is very helpful for graduate studies but I also question if this is a good article.  If this article represents how to write a good literature review, then why is it not in the APA manual?  Why base our information off of something that someone creates?  Now this Granello’s (2001) article is my only knowledge of this taxonomy and I feel that I would have to do more research on how Bloom came to his decision on what a good literature review is before I can fully except this form of evaluation of a research paper.
